UI Engineer

CSS Staffing, based in Omaha, NE, has an open position with a large client for a UI Engineer in Omaha

The successful candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Four year BA/BS degree with concentration in information technology, MIS, human factors, industrial design, visual arts, graphic design or related discipline, or comparable work experience required.
  • One to five years of experience creating low to medium complexity interfaces that organizes information for users.
  • One to five years of experience for creating user-centered designs based on customer feedback, business process knowledge, business requirements, and usability considerations.
  • One to five years of experience designing the UI architecture, interface, and interaction flow of new/existing web and software applications. Responsible for further improving information architecture, site navigation, labeling and other interface design elements.
  • At least two years experience with collecting and documenting technical and design requirements required.
  • Proficient in using a variety of productivity tools (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Note) required.
  • Strong analysis and documentation skills, with previous technical writing related experience preferred.
  • Experience conducting usability testing desired.
  • At least two years of usability research experience, including user experience research tools and techniques a plus.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment containing a cross-section of skill sets, and working directly with developers for implementation of designs. Previous agile experience or knowledge preferred.
  • Experience capturing and measuring web page metrics and analytics, along with experience using related tools such as Google Analytics a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Good background in web design and interface design with the web application
  • Must have HTML 5.0 (desired) and CSS 3.0 (desired)
  • Scripting experience: Java Script or JQuery are preferred
  • Artistic design experience
  • Mobile Application design a plus: Developing a mobile presence building more responsive design for a web app that would operate on a tablet or a handheld as well.
  • Experience on a Mac platform a plus; working on global or third party applications such as Censure or Phonegap.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Review existing customer interfaces, document design requirements and create a visual prototype of process improvement recommendations that improve customer efficiency, workflow, navigation and intuitiveness of the interface.
  • Create user-centered designs and prototypes based on customer feedback, business process knowledge, business requirements, and usability considerations. Design the UI architecture, interface, and interaction flow of new web and software applications. Oversee the launch of newly developed user interfaces.
  • Build a common and consistent look-and-feel across the suite of applications supported within the department.
  • Further improve information architecture, site navigation, labeling and other interface design elements of existing web and software applications.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and document newly developed user interfaces.
  • Partner with software development teams to create and implement software design guidelines and policies for the department.
  • Develop the technical specifications for the site or application interface.
  • Drive the user interface architecture and strategy effort within the department.
  • Participate as a team member with new software development projects, and provide interface design consulting support to software developers. Train department on guidelines and policies to ensure understanding and consistency.
  • Stay abreast of best practices for web-based information architecture and design, and remain current with industry knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
